ERC Consolidator Grants are designed for postdoc-stage researchers ready to establish their own independent research team.

Overview and aims

Researchers of any nationality who completed their PhDs between seven and twelve years ago are eligible to apply for this funding call designed to give them the resources to start their research group.

Applicant eligibility

Applicants from any discipline with a promising scientific track record and have an excellent research proposal. Applicants can be of any nationality and must have completed their PhD seven to twelve years prior to the application.

Evaluation criteria

Excellence - of the research proposal and the PI - is the sole evaluation criterion. Following an initial quality screening, applications are ranked and the highest-ranking proposals receive funding until the budget limit has been reached.

Peer-review panels are divided into three domains: Social Sciences and Humanities, Life Sciences, and Physical and Engineering Sciences.

Funding

Up to €2 million, with up to an additional €1 million for eligible start-up costs. Twenty-five percent of eligible indirect costs are also covered.
