Writing in the Sciences
University of Jyväskylä, Finland
A two-day workshop to help PhDs, postdocs, and PIs get their research published & funded
Over two days of unusually cold and snowy April weather, seven researchers gathered at the University of Jyväskylä to improve their writing and productivity. The five modules covered the essential skills needed to succeed in academia, from strengthening peer-reviewed journal articles to improving research grant applications to specific advice on how to get more done will less stress.
In addition to individual writing-development sessions, where participants got concrete feedback on how to better structure and contextualize their research, the workshop included the following five modules:
01
What an argument is and why you need one to get your article published
02
Five essentials: What every funding proposal needs to do well
03
What editors & reviewers want to see in journal articles & funding proposals
04
How to revise your own work: Where to start, what to look for, and how to use LLMs effectively
05
